If you thought I have been inactive here for the last few days – well, you are correct.
As soon as this site was completed I switched focus to a second project. I am the web club officer for the Math Club and one thing I’ve wanted to do since spring break last semester is to redesign the Math Club site. I wanted to replace the old site with something that looked more professional and something that could actually be useful to the Math Club rather than a burden.
The new site I’m working on is, of course, built on PHP and a MySQL database. I made a decision early on that I was going to blend the site into the rest of the Pacific University sites. I just didn’t know how much until after I got started. I had initially planned on using a navigation system my roommate made for me, but plans change and I ended up using the menu system that appears throughout the Pacific University site.
The web site is coming along well. One of the biggest components is the Events Calendar, which is simply a modified version of the calendar system I developed for BluHelix Studios. So while the calendar took a long time to develop for BluHelix I ended up getting two sites out of it for the price of one. A good deal if you ask me. And the facelift for the Events Calendar was sorely needed too, as on the previous site the Events Calendar was a mess.

As you can see, there are no less than six individually sorted lists thrown about the page with events all over the place. An actual calendar is a huge organizational improvement.

I am considering building a second view state for the calendar that displays events grouped by category, however. I just don’t know if I will have time to do it.
Construction is going well, I plan on having it complete by Saturday. Just in time for yet another project, I might add. More information coming soon.
Update: Alright, here is the category view of the calendar. This is the official replacement to the “Events Calendar” on the old Math Club site.

Because the events are being loaded from a database and because simply clicking on an event’s title brings up the full page of information I had the convenience of not being forced to display everything on one page like the previous site. Of course, this is only an alternate view to the actual calendar I built, which isn’t going anywhere.
